Eleven people, mostly foreign tourists, were killed when a Mombasa Air Safari plane crashed in a hilly, forested area about 40 kilometers from Diani airstrip in Kenya’s coastal Kwale region early Tuesday en route to the Maasai Mara. The airline said eight Hungarian and two German passengers and the Kenyan pilot died. Authorities reported the aircraft burst into flames; witnesses heard a loud bang and found charred, unrecognizable remains. Investigators are probing the cause amid morning heavy rain, with officials giving conflicting crash times of 5:30 a.m. and 8:35 a.m.
